Smoke testing sanitary sewer system May 2012
City of Oakland Public Works department plans to conduct smoke testing of much of our neighborhood’s sanitary sewer system beginning in mid-May. If your house is in this group, a pink flyer was placed on your front door May 15th. Please read it carefully.
These tests look for damage, improper connections, or other ways unwanted water may be entering the City’s sewer system. Non-toxic smoke may be seen coming from roof plumbing vents, manhole covers, sewer laterals, and other such openings.
