PG&E Substation work update

Traffic at the intersection of Park, Grosvenor, Excelsior, and Alma will be impacted the next 3 weekends by substation upgrade work. February 7-8, 14-15, 21-22. 9 am – 9 pm. This will not prevent motorists access to residential streets. The two lanes of Park Blvd closest to the substation will be closed during this time. Oakland Police Officers will be stationed at key intersections, directing traffic and controlling the intersections. Some traffic lights may be set to blinking. Safety cones will be set out on the roads as needed.

Daily timing on these 3 weekends:

9 – 10 a.m.: Preparing for the day’s lane closure(s). OPD flaggers mobilized.

10 a.m. – 7 p.m.: Actual construction work underway.

7 – 9 p.m.: Re-plating the site. OPD traffic control leaves at 9 p.m. On the 3 Sunday nights, also removing obstacles so the roads are ready for each Monday commute.

Sunday night, 2/22, into Monday morning, some traffic control measures will be in place to let newly poured concrete cure properly. All traffic measures will be removed before 6 a.m. Monday, 2/23.

PG&E, with City of Oakland, LHA, and local homeowners input, decided to do this phase on the weekends to minimize the disruption to heavy commute traffic.
